Our Programs

Landscape History & Restoration

  • Our East Texas Environmental Legacy Project collects firsthand accounts from local elders about what the landscape of our region looked like in their childhoods, so that we can understand what we have lost and what we would benefit from in bringing back.

  • We partner with the Watson Rare Native Plant Preserve, the Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust, and the Big Thicket Biosphere Reserve to create learning-excursions to unique, preserved ecosystems in East Texas that have been protected from timber companies, oil companies, TXDOT, and wayward developers. This way, we can introduce a new generation to the special species native to our region, which now face endangerment and extinction.

Arts and the Environment

  • Our zine, “The Zero Carbon Manifesto,” collects arts submissions twice a year for publication and local distribution, to increase awareness and community for green-interested people.

  • We host Texas and Louisiana-based artists who utilize the environment as some of their key themes — inviting them to panels as speakers and developing live entry-level workshops for our community.

Environmental Advocacy Training - Youth Focus

  • We have developed 3 branches of core curriculum to teach people (focusing on young people, but open to everyone) about environmental advocacy: environmental justice, conservation, and key leaders.

  • We utilize our social media channels to educate the larger public about key concepts and terms in these subject areas.
