Our Programs
Landscape Testimonies & the Changing Climate
Our East Texas Environmental Legacy Project collects firsthand accounts from locals about what the landscape of our region looked like in their childhoods, so that we can understand what we have lost or what we should invest in bringing back.
In this way, we introduce people to the concept of a changing climate through their own storytelling based in the locations that mean the most to them.
We also partner with organizations like the Watson Rare Native Plant Preserve, the Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust, the Big Thicket Biosphere Reserve, and the Big Thicket Association to showcase the more “untouched” landscapes of East Texas, so that community members can see just how much the local environment has changed.
Arts + Environment ~Radical~ Civic Engagement Zine
Our arts and ecology zine, “Zero C,” collects submissions twice a year for digital publication and local distribution. It gives local artists a platform to express their unique voices and opinions and increases dialogue about environment and the arts in our communities at large.
As an advocacy group, we are hoping to include information and voters guides for upcoming local and statewide elections, and to encourage civic engagement, especially among young people.
We work with other organizations that focus on civic engagement and voter education, as well as local arts institutions to host tables, panels, and talks about the environment and the structures that govern it.
Environmental Advocacy Training + Community Chats
We hold community chats at local sustainability-friendly businesses to learn about their processes towards sustainability and to create a safe space where people can talk about what bothers them about their environment or their local political climate.
We bring in outside speakers who are specialists in areas like journalism, advocacy, scientific research, arts, architecture, and urban planning to educate our community about what they do and how we can help.
