Everywhere, Everyday Earth Day:

Original Earth Day Posters + International Postcard Project

“Climate Justice Texas Community” (501c3)

  • We pay tribute to figures like “Silent Spring’s” Rachel Carson, Port Arthur’s Robert Rauschenberg, and Nederland’s Karen Silkwood through a radical recommitment to understanding the origins of Earth Day - including its iconography - as well as the role that local activists have played (and may continue to play) in advancing community rights for health, labor, and the environment.

  • We teach about the changing imagery behind Earth Day and how it has changed and become “greenwashed” and overtaken by the same entities that it was created to caution against.

  • We invite friend-participants from around the world to engage with us by writing us postcards about their own environmental observations, no matter where in the world they may be.

Early project prototype: here, created by students at T.J. Middle School, Port Arthur Texas.

The Local Orchid

Arts + Ecology + Civic Engagement Magazine

“Climate Justice Texas Community” (501c3)

  • Our magazine collects submissions twice a year. We use it to organically create unseen community, to provide publishing opportunities to emerging artists and established advocates alike, and to partner with strong collaborative organizations who have a stake in our eco-region and beyond.

  • As a youth-focused engagement organization, we include voters guides and similar resources for upcoming local, statewide, and national elections.

  • In the future, we hope to publish a physical magazine (or at the very least, selections) and to work with local cultural institutions to host live launch events.

Environmental Advocacy 101

Educational Trainings + (Sober) “Happy Hour” Hikes

“Climate Justice Texas” 501c4

  • We use social media-based and in-person events to build people power and emotional-social safety nets for anyone interested in learning more about the ins and outs of environmental advocacy — from vocab, to government processes, to how the oil & gas companies work, to conservation concepts, and more!

  • In casual-cool settings, we bring in outside speakers who are specialists in various areas to further educate and empower our members and community.

East Texas Landscape Legacy Project

Contemporary Archival Project, Creating a Vision for the Future

Currently on hiatus

  • We previously attempted a project combining contemporary oral histories, archival footage, landscape images, and future idealizations.

  • Currently on hiatus because early attempts were machine-heavy, financially and programmatically burdensome (considering current capacity), and didn’t have the right “vibe.”

  • Good idea though!
