About Us
“When we remove any species from its habitat or disrupt any of its neighbors…we may be dooming that species to extinction….”
— Edward C. Fritz, Realms of Beauty: The Wildnerness Areas of East Texas
Climate Justice Texas was created to start a movement at the heart of the nation’s oil & gas economy - for local young people, by local young people.
Today’s youth have grown up knowing that our world is facing climate-related challenges that have never been seen before: A warming planet, rising sea levels, and mega-storms, have pushed the topic of “climate change” to the forefront of government agendas and media topics. However, on the ground in Texas, knowledge about what any of that means or what people can do about it is practically nonexistent.
We want to change that!
Here in Southeast Texas, we are home to the largest petrochemical buildout in the nation and the largest LNG infrastructure in the world. However, many of our communities are suffering — the quality of our cities, our health, and our lives does not reflect the fact that we are home to the most profitable companies in the world.
We are also home to the 2nd most biodiverse place on the planet, the Big Thicket region of East Texas. We have incredible, rare carnivorous plants, populations of sea turtles, are a migratory corridor for birds, and are a safe haven for many native flora and fauna that have been pushed to the brink of extinction - like Texas trailing phlox.
At Climate Justice Texas, we empower ourselves and our friends with knowledge about our environments’ past, present, and future so we can make our community greener, cleaner, and better for all.
